Kalvin Phillips has left Leeds United for Manchester City and the Yorkshire Pirlo will be bidding a fond farewell to his boyhood club as he moves across the Pennines.

A move to Manchester will be strange for Phillips who has been Leeds born and bred, but luckily for the Englishman, he won’t be the only Leeds supporter at the Etihad.

Indeed, Phillips will now be working alongside another lifelong Leeds fan in Erling Haaland.

It’s no secret that Haaland loves Leeds, he’s previously spoken about his desire to win the Premier League with the Whites, and he was spotted just last year wearing a pair of Leeds United shorts while signing autographs.

Haaland and Phillips may bond at Manchester City over their love of Leeds, but, in another world, these two could have been combining at Elland Road to take Leeds to the next level.

Indeed, back in 2017, Leeds came ever so close to signing Haaland. In fact, Victor Orta had reportedly already had a shirt with his name printed on the back, and we can’t help but think how differently things could have gone if United had pushed that deal through.

Leeds would have had one of the best strikers in the world in their ranks, while Phillips has, of course, since blossomed into one of the finest midfielders in the country.

If things had gone differently, Phillips and Haaland could have formed a truly world-class core to the team at Elland Road that, combined with the likes of Raphinha and others, could have taken Leeds to the next level, but, sadly for the Yorkshire club, they’ll have to sit back and watch as two players that should have played together at Elland Road combine and conquer at the Etihad in the coming years.

Phillips and Haaland could have been the duo to take Leeds to the next level, but now, five years after Haaland’s failed Leeds move, they’re finally going to play together at City.
