Tottenham Hotspur may have a chance of signing Swansea City’s Gylfi Sigurdsson this January.

Swansea City boss Bob Bradley’s confirmation that he wants to sign Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Tom Carroll (The Independent) may have just opened the door for a potential return for Gylfi Sigurdsson at White Hart Lane.

Sigurdsson moved to Spurs back in 2012, but he only spent two years with the North London club before moving to Swansea.

The Icelandic international has since become one of the Swans most integral players, and his reputation has been enhanced considerably.

Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino even hinted that he would be interested in signing Sigurdsson last month, if the opportunity became available.

Pochettino admitted that Sigurdsson would be ‘perfect’ in Tottenham’s current team (The Guardian), and there may be potential for a deal to happen now.

With Swansea looking at Carroll, Spurs could use the midfielder as a makeweight in a deal.

The Swans are likely to not want to lose Sigurdsson, especially as they are fighting a relegation battle, but this January could be their last chance to negotiate a fair fee for him.

Swansea will almost certainly have to sell Sigurdsson if they are relegated, as they will not be able to fund his sizeable wages without top flight football.

It, therefore, leaves Spurs in a position of power. They could offer Swansea an offer in January, which includes Carroll, safe in the knowledge that if they are unable to do a deal – he may well be available for cheaper in the summer.

So far, Pochettino’s admiration for Sigurdsson has not turned into a bid – but with January looming ever closer, it would not be at all surprising if Spurs did make their move.
