Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has told Sky Germany that the door is still open for David Alaba to stay at the club.
Alaba is out of contract at the end of the season, and despite being a key player for the German giants, he could be on the move.
The Austrian has rejected Bayern’s offer of around £190,000-a-week according to Bild, and Bayern now think he plans to leave next summer for even more money elsewhere.
AS claim that six clubs want to sign Alaba; Barcelona, Real Madrid, Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester City and Liverpool.
Alaba allegedly prefers a move to Spain, but having seen Thiago leave Bayern for Liverpool, over the summer, he could be tempted into that same move.
The 28-year-old has spent 12 years with Bayern, racking up almost 400 appearances for the club, winning nine league titles and two Champions Leagues.
Now, Rummenigge has suggested that ‘the door is still ajar’ for Alaba, heaping praise on his service to the club, and he is open to finding a solution to keeping Alaba at the club – even if that currently looks unlikely.
“David Alaba has been with FC Bayern for over twelve years, he has been an important player over the years. He has won an incredible number of titles with us, has been two triple winners with us,” said Rummenigge: “It is important to that you put the quality of the player and also of the people in the right light. “
“If David wants to stay at Bayern, which I am not ruling out entirely, the door is still ajar. Then you have to think about finding a way that is easy on the face for both parties,” he added.
Landing Alaba on a free transfer would be a huge coup for Liverpool, though with Andrew Robertson locked down at left back, Alaba may have to play as a centre back next to Virgil van Dijk – and whether that’s what he wants remains to be seen.
