Paul Merson has selected Arsenal centre-back William Saliba in his Premier League Team of the Season.

The £27 million (Football.London) man has been a revelation for the Gunners this season, and perhaps his injury was instrumental behind their title collapse.

For how key William Saliba has been to this Arsenal side this campaign, Paul Merson has chosen to pick him in his Premier League Team of the Season.

The former Saint Etienne defender’s ability to snuff out danger, his calmness on and off the ball and mature decision-making makes him such an elite prospect.

During his masterful showing in Arsenal’s 1-0 win against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, Danny Gabbiddon noted how it was ‘scary’ how accomplished he looks at just 22 years of age.

Paul Merson has been blown away by Arsenal colossus William Saliba as well, as he justifies the reason behind his spot in his Premier League Team of the Season.

“As soon as he came out of the team, that’s when Arsenal’s title challenge came to an end and they started conceding goals left, right and centre. Until then they looked so solid. And he was a big part of that. The difference in Arsenal without him proves how important he has been”, he told GiveMeSport.

HITC View: Bulletproof case made for Saliba

Considering the number of top central defenders in the Premier League, it would not have been a cardinal sin if Paul Merson even excluded Arsenal starlet William Saliba in his Team of the Season.

And while Saliba’s injury is not the sole reason why the Gunners have seemingly capitulated at the final hurdle, it certainly has a part to play in their downfall.

Despite being just a young talent, the Frenchman may well be the best centre-half at the club and his absence is always glaring.

Barring an iffy return from the World Cup and the odd mistake, the wonderkid has been worthy of all the applause for his enormous impact on Arsenal.
