Kieron Dyer has claimed that ‘the difference’ between Tottenham and Newcastle now is that the latter can go out and buy ‘world-class’ players, as he told Sky Sports (17/10/21 at 1:10 pm).
The former Newcastle player claimed that Tottenham go out and ‘buy potential’, but he warned that that can’t always be maximised.
For a long while now, Spurs have been finishing above the Magpies, in Europe, and at times, challenging for the Premier League title.
But with Mauricio Pochettino out of the door, Spurs have started to falter, and with a Saudi-led consortium taking charge of Newcastle, many will be predicting for the roles to be reversed in the coming years.
Dyer seemingly suggested things are changing now, as he pointed towards Newcastle’s spending power.
“When you were talking about Tottenham there by saying, ‘they haven’t gone on to the next step’,” said Dyer. “Tottenham buy players with potential and try to maximise that potential.
“Potential, people don’t maximise their potential. Newcastle can go out, when they have got the foundations in place and buy world-class players. That’s the difference between Tottenham and Newcastle now.”

Whilst Newcastle fans will be dreaming about what the future holds, it’s the present that they have to worry about.
They are sitting in the bottom three, without a win this season and showing all the signs that they are heading down to the Championship.
Those at the front of the Newcastle ship need to get the club’s house in order, put down the right pieces of jigsaw because they don’t want to be the richest club in England’s second-tier.
If the Magpies can reach the heights Spurs did under Pochettino, then given their spending power, they will probably do something the North London club failed to do, which is add a trophy to their cabinet.
