Tottenham manager Antonio Conte has hinted that the club will work on trying to award Harry Kane a new contract, with the England international’s current deal set to expire in 2024.
Speaking to the press via Football London, the Italian coach revealed that Spurs will look to hand Kane a new contract in an attempt to keep the superstar striker in north London for the upcoming years, with rumours circulating this summer that Bayern Munich and Chelsea are interested in the 29-year-old forward.
With a reported wage of £200,000-a-week, Kane is Tottenham’s highest-paid player as well as one of their most important, with the striker playing a huge role last season in Spurs’ fourth-place finish following a rough start to the campaign under former manager Nuno Espirito Santo.
Indeed, the arrival of Conte has instilled huge belief amongst Tottenham supporters that something special is in the works, with the former Inter Milan manager signing six first-team players that could help Spurs end their 14-year trophy draught, with the Spurs boss known for his ability to win silverware.
If Tottenham are to succeed next season, the belief that their star striker will stay beyond 2024 would be a huge confidence booster for the entire squad, and according to Conte, work is being done already behind the scenes to give Kane a new contract.
The Italian said when asked: “For sure the club will want to try to renew the contract of their best players. You know very well that Harry is, for us, an important player, but I see him very happy. I see him happy. His feelings are positive but at the same time we have to understand that if we want to reach something important we have to fight in every game.”
