Speaking on the Wrighty’s House Podcast, Ian Wright has claimed that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang cares a lot about Arsenal amid a bout of fan criticism.
It’s fair to say that Aubameyang hasn’t had the best of seasons for the Gunners, but Wright refuses to entertain the argument that he doesn’t care about the team.
Some have suggested to Wright that Aubameyang has followed in Mesut Ozil’s footsteps by allowing his form to dip after signing a new contract, but Wright refuses to believe that is the case.
“I remember getting a message from him that said ‘I’m in hospital, everything’s fine’, and then the picture came out and I instantly thought, wow, that guy was playing with malaria,” Wright said.
“He had to post that you know, he had to post that for people to see because people are saying things like ‘he’s doing an Ozil, what did we give him that contract for?’ No, this is the guy to give that contract to if we’re going to give it to anyone, because if he gets that service he’s going to score and the club means the world to him.”
“With everything that’s happened with his Mum, malaria, the pressure he’s under to play for Gabon, people aren’t putting these things into the mix, they just think about ‘why isn’t he playing well’.”

Wright will know better than anyone how much Arsenal means to Aubameyang.
The striker is clearly close with the pundit, texting him from his hospital bed, and Wright is in no doubt about how much Arsenal means to him.
As Wright says, perhaps people should be more compassionate to Aubameyang after an incredibly tough period in his personal life.
Fingers crossed the attacker can get back to his best sooner rather than later.
