Stephan Ambrosius plans to stay at Hamburg despite interest from Celtic and Leeds United, his agent has told BILD as uncertainty swirls around the Germany U21 international.
Then again, Hamburg fans could be forgiven for assuming their highly rated centre-back wanted out of the former European champions.
Ambrosius didn’t look like a man desperate to help ‘the Dinosaur’ return from the brink of extinction recently.
He has turned down the chance to extend a contract that expires at the end of this season (Hamburger Morgenpost).
Celtic have shown an interest after conceding 20 times in their last eight matches (BILD), while Leeds director of football Victor Orta is also a big fan (Ghana SoccerNet).
But with Hamburg flying high at the top of the 2.Bundesliga table and dreaming of a return to the big time after three seasons in the second tier, Ambrosius is still committed to the cause.
“We have given HSV our view. The club knows what we want. Our goal was for Stephan to stay in Hamburg,” explains agent Nochi Hamasor.

Hamasor did add, however, that the player’s camp weren’t best pleased by coach Daniel Thioune’s decision to drop Ambrosius for Sunday’s clash with VFL Bochum.
Interestingly, Hamburg tasted defeat for the first time this season without their star defender.
And it remains to be seen whether Ambrosius returns to the starting XI against last season’s play-off finalists Heidenheim as a club that spent 55 consecutive seasons in the Bundesliga before its 2018 relegation looks to get its promotion push back on track.
