Everton are set to make their second signing of the January transfer window.
Everton are poised to complete their second January signing, as BBC Sport report that Arsenal’s Theo Walcott has undergone a medical with the club ahead of a £20million move.
Sam Allardyce made his first signing for the club earlier this month, bringing in Cenk Tosun from Besiktas to boost his strike force, and more deals are on the way.
Walcott, who has yet to start a single Premier League game this season, is now heading to join Tosun at Goodison Park, adding another weapon to Allardyce’s attack.
Allardyce initially set out to sign just two players during this month’s transfer window, but poor recent displays – including the 4-0 defeat at Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday evening – may force Allardyce to pursue other players.
Another central midfielder is wanted by many fans, but the one major problem position for Allardyce is left back, and it’s an area that must be resolved by the end of the month.
Leighton Baines is ageing and struggling with injuries, but Everton failed to land a successor over the summer, loaned Brendan Galloway to Sunderland and then didn’t register Luke Garbutt for the Premier League.
That has forced right back Cuco Martina to play on the left, and his torrid displays mean that fans are taking to Twitter to question just why another attacker is being signed before a left back.
Fans believe that a new left back would cap off a strong transfer window for Everton, and are getting increasingly frustrated with director of football Steve Walsh for not yet managing to find the long-term successor to Baines.
