The New Zealand international has a good relationship with his countryman Winston Reid.

Leeds United striker Chris Wood is rightly attracting plenty of Premier League interest. The Kiwi striker has been in fine form this season, scoring 28 goals in 46 appearances for the club.

It was recently reported by CalcioMercato that West Ham, Everton, Crystal Palace, Sunderland and Burnley are all interested and that €6 million (£5 million) could see Leeds selling their star striker.

However, Football London have reported that West Ham have the upper hand, due to Wood being international team-mates with Hammers captain Winston Reid.

So some recent comments from Wood, about Reid, will not give Leeds fans an easy night sleep. He was speaking of Reid’s initiative to bring high-class football academies to New Zealand and told Stuff.co that he was very pleased to see the Kiwi captain giving back to the community:

“It’s something that as a kid when I was back here I never had this type of opportunity, and it’s something I would have benefited from if I had this as a kid.

“It’s definitely something that I’m very taken aback by, looking at it I know that I’d like to be a part of it.”

There is little doubt that pair get on well. Both are Auckland natives and are currently the captain and vice-captain for the New Zealand national team.

The idea of playing together at club level will no doubt appeal to both men and Wood would find settling into his new surroundings very easy given the presence of his Kiwi mate.

Leeds will just hope West Ham’s interest is not as concrete as it seems.
