Speaking on Vibe With Five, Jermaine Jenas has been discussing Liverpool’s slow start to this season and their decision to sell Sadio Mane this summer.
The Senegalese winger joined Bayern Munich after the Champions League final as he entered the final year of his contract, and it’s fair to say that Liverpool are missing the attacker right now.
Mane’s intensity and workrate is something the Reds are clearly lacking right now, and according to Jenas, selling Mane is the biggest mistake the Reds have ever made.

Liverpool’s Mane mistake
Jenas gave his verdict on this situation.
“Look I think it’s really simple with Liverpool, selling Mane is the biggest mistake they’ve ever made. When you talk about the pressing, nobody set the press, set the example or worked as hard as Mane did. They got themselves into a bit of a pickle from a contractual point of view. Their business has knocked them for six a bit. Darwin Nunez is not working, how did they not highlight their midfield? Their recruitment this year has been poor,” Jenas said.
Made sense at the time
Jenas may well be right Liverpool selling Mane has backfired, but as ever, hindsight is 20/20 and it’s easy to say that now.
However, at the time, letting Mane go didn’t seem like a ridiculous decision to make.
Mane had just turned 30, he was entering the final year of his contract, Luis Diaz had proven to be more than good enough on that left side, and Liverpool were about to buy a big-money striker in Darwin Nunez.
However, Nunez hasn’t hit the ground running and there’s a huge Mane-sized hole in this Liverpool squad right now.
Unfortunately for the Reds, this is all in the past now and they need to look forward and figure out how they’re going to get out of this slump without Mane.
