Liverpool seemed to spend most of the summer tying down players to contracts rather than signing new ones.
The only senior star to join the Reds this summer was Ibrahima Konate, for £36 million.
But it was still a productive period for Michael Edwards and Jurgen Klopp because a flurry of big-name players extended their contracts at Liverpool.
At the very end of the window, captain Jordan Henderson joined Virgil van Dijk, Alisson, Fabinho, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andrew Robertson in committing their futures to the Anfield club during the off-season.
There’s one or two big names missing from there, in terms of players whose contract urgently needs addressing, and the biggest is Mohamed Salah.
The Egypt international remains Liverpool’s most important player but with his existing deal expiring in 2023, Edwards and Klopp must sort it out.
Break the bank
Problem is, it won’t come cheap because The Mirror is reporting that the 29-year-old is demanding an eye-watering £500,000 per week to sign a new contract.
The report adds that it would be the biggest deal in the club’s history, but that Liverpool aren’t prepared to shatter their wage structure to accommodate the player’s wishes.
How much money is Salah earning at Liverpool?
According to Spotrac, the former Chelsea and Roma star is on around £200,00 per week.
The Merseysiders certainly drive a hard bargain, as Georginio Wijnaldum found out during the summer after leaving on a free transfer.
If Liverpool say they won’t buckle, they will not buckle and Salah must either lower his request or it’s time to start looking elsewhere.
