Carlo Ancelotti and Seamus Coleman are united in the belief that Everton fell well short of the standards set by Wolverhampton Wanderers during Sunday’s humiliating 3-0 defeat at Molineux, speaking to the Toffees’ official website.
While there is no shame to losing away from home to one of the Premier League’s most well-coached and well-drilled clubs, there certainly was some shame in how Everton were blown away at Nuno Espirito Santo’s side.
Just like against Tottenham six days earlier, the Merseyside giants barely laid a glove on their opponents during a performance for which the word ‘insipid’ would be a compliment.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison hardly had chance between them.
While, at the other end of the pitch, Carlo Ancelotti’s increasingly aimless side were lucky to concede just the three goals.
A Raul Jimenez penalty gave a dominant Wolves a 1-0 lead on the stroke of half-time, before a Leander Dendoncker header and a Diogo Jota stunner, via a sublime Ruben Neves pass, put Everton to the sword.
“Wolves were better than us,” former PSG, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich boss Ancelotti said at full-time. “We didn’t show good spirit.

“More than the technical and tactical aspect, which was not good enough, the spirit of the team was unacceptable. There are some excuses [for Everton’s performance] but I don’t want to have excuses.
“We got beat by the better team today,” right-back Coleman adds.
“I think it was down to [the fact] they wanted it more, which I think is the biggest embarrassment for players, that’s it’s possible the other team wanted it more than you.”
Wolves, inspired by an excellent Daniel Podence, are now five places and ten points clear of Everton in the table – though qualification for the Champions League feels increasingly unlikely now thanks to a certain CAS ruling.
