Portuguese football expert Pedro Sepulveda has told Sky Sports about a problem that Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool could face with Darwin Nunez.
The well-known and well-respected journalist has said that Nunez, who is reportedly close to a move to Liverpool in the summer transfer window, can struggle psychologically if he is not in form.
Sky Sports have reported that Liverpool are in talks with Benfica over signing the 22-year-old Uruguay international striker in an £85 million deal.
Liverpool warned about Darwin Nunez
Sepulveda told Sky Sports: “The biggest defect – or the less good point – about Nunez is his psychological game. In the 2020/21 season, he was not scoring many goals. He played 44 matches and only scored 14.
“He was criticised by the fans a little bit and the first thing he did was start suspending his social media, blocking people and not reading the comments.
“This proves he doesn’t deal well with critics when things start not going well. And in England, the price tag is the first thing people will talk about when he doesn’t start scoring goals.”

Brilliant signing
In our view, Darwin Nunez would be a brilliant signing for Liverpool in the summer transfer window.
While Sepulveda makes a very valid point about the psychological struggles of the Uruguayan when he does not score, he also explains why the striker would succeed at Liverpool and how he would make the Reds better.
We should not forget that the striker is only 22.
It is not always easy for a young player to deal with criticisms.
Nunez was brilliant for Benfica this past season.
The 22-year-old scored 26 goals and gave four assists in 24 Portuguese league starts and scored six goals in six Champions League starts for Benfica this past season.
