No it wasn’t Keith Andrews signing for West Brom from Blackburn Rovers, it was Inter Milan signing Fredy Guarin from Porto.

Yesterday Inter Milan confirmed they had clinched the signing of Fredy Guarin on loan from Porto. The Italian side will hope he can inspire them to win another Scudetto title.

He passed a medical yesterday and the loan signing was all done and dusted. The San Siro club and the player both hope to make the move permanent in the summer.

So what do we know about Fredy Guarin and why is the deal such a coup?

The 25-year-old Colombian has been at Porto since 2008, and was a crucial member of their Europa League winning side last season scoring five goals in the process.

He also played an important role in Porto’s league winning season under Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas, scoring five league goals.

Before this he had struggled to make an impact at Porto and broke through after Raul Meireles’ departure.

He has been a Colombian international since 2006 scoring twice in 36 games for his country.

Given his success under Villas-Boas it is a surprise Chelsea did not try to sign him as he is approaching his peak and has all the traits to be a complete midfielder.

Inter have paid 1.5 million Euros for the loan, and the permanent deal could be completed for 11 million in the summer.

He will play under former Chelsea boss Claudio Ranieri, and replaces Thiago Motta in the squad who left for PSG.

He has a good physical presence and a great shot on him, and we don’t believe any of the transfer deals done in England or elsewhere match up in terms of talent and value.
