Recently released Sunderland goalkeeper Craig Gordon edged former Manchester United stopper Peter Schmeichel in the fan poll.
As part of the Premier League’s 20th year celebrations, fans have been voting on everything from their best team to the best save.
Most would have tipped Manchester United legend Peter Schmeichel to win the poll, but it was won by Craig Gordon.
Schmeichel’s efforts in keeping Newcastle United at bay in 1997 came in second place to the now former Sunderland stopper.
Sunderland took the decision to release Craig Gordon last week, after once paying £9 million for his services.
He had fallen behind Keiran Westwood and Simon Mignolet in the pecking order at the Stadium of Light after suffering badly with injuries.
Winning this poll will have come at the perfect time to not only lift his confidence, but act as an advert for his signature.
The save was made in a home match against Bolton Wanderers, when defender Zat Knight had attempted to prod home a loose ball after a corner.
Somehow Gordon stretched across and not only kept the ball from crossing the line from point blank range, but also got a strong enough hand on it to tip it over the bar.
