Emmanuel Petit hailed Liverpool duo Roberto Firmino and Alisson Becker during their side’s 3-3 draw against Brighton and Hove Albion in the Premier League on Saturday at Anfield.

The legendary French midfielder claimed that, after Firmino, the man between Liverpool’s stick was their best player, and if it wasn’t for those two, then Jurgen Klopp’s side would have lost, as he told Premier League Productions (01/10/22 at 5:10 pm).

With Graham Potter out of the door, this was a pretty difficult opening test for now boss Roberto De Zerbi, but the Italian passed with flying colours.

To think that he would be the one most disappointed at not securing all three points because his team were 2-0 up at one stage, perhaps sums up how Liverpool are playing.

From back to front, everything and anything is going wrong, which is a worrying sign because the games are now coming thick and fast for the Reds.

Arsenal hero Petit wanted to highlight the two players who stood out for Liverpool, as he felt that if anyone deserved the win, then it was Brighton.

“They took the Reds by the neck,” said Petit. “I think the Reds were very sloppy in the first 25 minutes. They made so many mistakes defensively. They played brilliantly Brighton and deserved their point.

“To be frank, they should have deserved more than that. If you put Firmino away, who scored two goals and saved the afternoon for Liverpool, then I think the best player after Firmino was Alisson, the goalkeeper, so it tells you a lot.

“If Alisson wasn’t in a great day, then they would have lost the game easily.”

MESS AFTER MESS TO DEAL WITH FOR KLOPP

There are problems back to front for Klopp, which doesn’t help his cause because which way do your turn?

Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk are horribly out-of-form, the midfield didn’t click yesterday, whilst Mo Salah looks like the shadow of the player that recently signed a new deal.

Other senior stars, such as Jordan Henderson and James Milner, have also struggled, so it doesn’t leave much for Klopp to turn to.

Winning is the only medicine that will sort out Liverpool’s current illness, but their issue is that they are even struggling to do that, at this moment in time.
