Speaking on the Official Leeds United Podcast, Whites legend Tony Dorigo has been raving over Kalvin Phillips, claiming he’s the best homegrown talent Leeds have right now.
Leeds have had some fantastic academy products in recent years with the likes of Fabian Delph and Lewis Cook coming through, and while most have moved on from Elland Road, Phillips has stayed loyal.
Dorigo was retelling the story of David Batty’s time at Leeds, and he drew comparisons to Phillips.
What’s been said?
Dorigo had special praise for Phillips.
“They loved him because he was a Leeds local lad, and that is absolutely tremendous, that is really important, so we want to keep seeing those players come through, and of course, the best one we’ve got is Kalvin Phillips, and what a lad he is, what a good young man he is, everyone should be so proud of him because he’s playing so well,” Dorigo said.

Leeds’ finest
Phillips is beloved by Leeds fans because he’s a fantastic talent, but perhaps more importantly, he’s a local lad.
In modern football you rarely see a player stay true to their roots for so long, but Phillips has bucked that trend.
It’s not as though he’s not had the chance to jump ship either, as we all saw in the Amazon documentary at the end of the 2019/20 season, he had the chance to join Aston Villa in the summer of 2019, but he chose to stay with his boyhood club.
Phillips is undoubtedly the finest local talent Leeds currently have.
