Rio Ferdinand has praised Liverpool central defender Joe Gomez on his YouTube channel for his performance against Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City at Anfield in the Premier League on Sunday evening.
The former Manchester United central defender believes that Gomez was better than Virgil van Dijk during Liverpool’s 1-0 win win against defending Premier League champions Manchester City at home.

In our view, Liverpool central defender Joe Gomez played well against Manchester City and showed that he remains an important player for manager Jurgen Klopp.
The 25-year-old has had injury problems in his Liverpool career so far, and there is also a strong competition for places in the Reds’ defence.
However, the England international showed against defending Premier League champions City just how he is.
Gomez played a big role in the Liverpool backline keeping City and Norway international striker Erling Haaland quiet.
For Liverpool to be successful in the Premier League and in the UEFA Champions League this season, in our view, Gomez has to be on top of his game and has to play like he did against City.
