As covered by us yesterday, Calciomercato believe that Everton are interested in signing Pedro from Roma this summer.

The former Barcelona and Chelsea forward signed a two-year contract worth £50,000-a-week after leaving Stamford Bridge last summer.

However, Calciomercato state that the Spaniard may now be leaving Rome after just one season, with Everton interested in signing him.

Now 33 years of age, Pedro still managed to have a decent campaign, scoring six goals while providing seven assists in 40 appearances.

If the Toffees signed Pedro, he would bring a wealth of experience to Goodison Park.

The 65-cap Spain international is a World Cup winner, a Premier League winner, and has also lifted the Champions League on three occasions.

If we mentioned all of his other accolades, we’d be here forever – he’s one of the most decorated footballers around.

Lionel Messi is a big fan of Pedro

One man who has a great bond with the Everton target is Lionel Messi.

The pair played alongside each other 270 times at Barcelona, where they combined for 53 goals.

Amid talk of the forward joining Manchester United in 2015, the six-time Ballon d’Or winner praised Pedro.

The Express quote Messi as saying: “Personally I don’t know what his decision will be but we’re all with him and we’ll back him.

“We want the best for him given what he’s given the club – he deserves the best. I don’t know what he’ll decide but whatever he’ll have our support.”

It’s clear that the Argentine holds Pedro in high regard.

If he does move to Goodison Park this summer, the Spaniard wouldn’t be the worst signing – he perhaps has a few good years left in him.

However, Marcel Brands shouldn’t make him a priority.

Only if Everton fail to obtain younger targets should Pedro be signed, in our view.
