Cristian Romero has called Aston Villa and Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez ‘the best in the world’.
On Saturday, Emiliano Martinez celebrated his 31st birthday and, via his Instagram story, Tottenham defender Cristian Romero lauded the player.
In 2022, the duo helped Argentina to glory by guiding their nation to the World Cup in Qatar.
It was the moment that saw Aston Villa’s number one, Martinez, become a hero because he stepped up when it mattered most, including THAT stoppage-time save in extra-time, not forgetting his countless penalty saves.
That’s going to be a moment that will be replayed again and again in years to come, as it is probably one of the greatest saves of all time.
Nonetheless, this was the message Romero sent to Martinez via his IG story on Saturday.

“Happy Birthday, my archer,” said Romero. “The best in the world.”

Martinez divides opinion
For some, they will hate a player of Martinez’s antics because he rubs them up the wrong way, that’s why FIFA have got all upset and changed the rules when it comes to penalties.
It’s come to the point now that, as a keeper, you can’t even breathe during a penalty shootout because you will probably get a yellow card.
But will Martinez care one jot? Absolutely not. The £120k-a-week Villa star (Spotrac) has got his World Cup for Argentina.
