Ian Wright has hailed Anthony Gordon and stated that it’s ‘the best I have seen’ him play following his transfer from Everton to Newcastle United.
Last January, amid trouble at Everton, the all-action winger secured a big-money transfer to Newcastle United.
And then, on Sunday, Anthony Gordon opened the scoring as Eddie Howe’s side suffered a gut-wrenching defeat to Liverpool, with Wright claiming that he caused his former rivals ’so many problems’, as he told Premier League Productions (28/08/23 at 2:05 pm).
There was a lot of spotlight on Gordon’s head when he switched Goodison Park for St James’ Park because of the manner in which he left.
There are some Everton fans who didn’t take too kindly to Gordon’s actions during his final days at the club and the winger not turning up for training.
Either way, former Arsenal striker Wright thinks that the England U21 International hasn’t played better.

“Gordon, what I have seen of him, up until this point, that’s the best I have ever seen,” said Wright. “I know he is nowhere near what his final form is like.
“But he caused so many problems for them. They got so dishevelled when he was running at them.”

Gordon improvement
The 22-year-old has started all three Premier League games under Howe, as he is keeping new signing, Harvey Barnes out of the XI.
When Gordon first entered the building, he didn’t exactly hit the ground running and he made a slow start.
But, with a pre-season under his belt, it’s clearly visible that, less than 12 months into his move to Newcastle, he is already showcasing signs of improvement.
