Jose Enrique thinks it’s ‘best’ Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain leaves Liverpool this summer, with Aston Villa keen on his services.
The former left-back added on Liverpoolgoals’ Instagram that the English midfielder needs to ‘go somewhere to play more minutes’.
There are suggestions that the Reds are ‘willing to listen to offers’ for Oxlade-Chamberlain, with Aston Villa on alert.
Back in 2017, Liverpool paid Arsenal £35 million for Oxlade-Chamberlain’s talents (BBC Sport), but it hasn’t worked out for the player on Merseyside.
Oxlade-Chamberlain only started 17 games in all competitions for Liverpool last season – you have to bear in mind the Reds played every game possible and reached three finals.
Nonetheless, regarding Oxlade-Chamberlain’s future, this is what Enrique posted in the comments section of Liverpoolgoals’ Instagram post.
“Yes, the best for him and the club is for him to go somewhere to play more minutes,” said Enrique.
ASTON VILLA DON’T NEED OXLADE-CHAMBERLAIN
The summer transfer window hasn’t even officially opened yet and Villa have been pretty busy concluding deals.
Philippe Coutinho has been signed up on a permeant basis, whilst Boubacar Kamara joined from Marseille on a free transfer and Diego Carlos was snapped up from Sevilla.
Added with that, Robin Olsen has turned his loan deal into a permanent one, whilst Matt Targett has headed the other way to Newcastle United.
Whilst Villa have ambitions of getting back to Europe and beyond, someone like Oxlade-Chamberlain isn’t needed in their midfield because he’s not better than the likes of John McGinn.
And you wouldn’t play him ahead of Jacob Ramsey because he is now progressing at a ridiculous rate.
