According to CalcioMercatoWeb, Fabio Paratici has earmarked Gian Piero Gasperini as his number one managerial target to replace Antonio Conte.

Conte, as many will have noticed, is constantly being linked with a move away from Tottenham, and just last week he admitted that he will not continue at the club if he doesn’t feel he is being backed.

Therefore, Paratici has has to come up with a contingency plan for if Conte does leave the club, and Gasperini is one manager that he likes the look of.

Spurs fans may well be excited by this prospect. After all, Gasperini’s Atalanta side played some of the best football in Europe in recent years, while one Tottenham player, in particular, may be enthused by this rumour.

Indeed, Cristian Romero worked under Gasperini during his time at Atalanta, and it’s fair to say that he loved the coach.

Romero a big fan

The Argentine spoke so highly of Gasperini to AS a couple of years ago – via Football Italia.

“It was Gasperini who helped me grow,” Romero said. “I think he was the best coach I have had in my career.”

“I improved a lot with him, I thank him for everything. When I learned that Atalanta were looking for me, I didn’t hesitate to move to Bergamo.”

“He’s a coach who, if he sees that you want to grow and improve, he will stay with you until death. It’s been like that since the first day I arrived.”

“He’s a great coach and he is showing it in a club that wasn’t, but that has improved thanks to him.”

Could be brilliant

Gasperini coming to Spurs could be absolutely brilliant for Romero.

The World Cup winner was voted the best defender in Serie A under the Italian’s tutelage, and he could, once again, reach those heights under his management on the Premier League.

This could be brilliant for Spurs and for Romero if Paratici does indeed go for Gasperini if Conte leaves.
