Speaking on the Kelly and Wrighty Show, Ian Wright has been discussing Martin Odegaard and how he has grown since joining Arsenal.
The Norwegian midfielder is finally looking like the world-class player we all expected him to be from a young age, and Wright believes that Odegaard has truly arrived in north London this season after being made captain.
Indeed, the pundit says that the captain’s armband has given Odegaard the authority and respect within the squad that has allowed him to thrive, stating that he has now truly made his mark at the Emirates.

Odegaard has arrived
Wright hailed the impact Odegaard has had this season.
“Mikel said he’s not a vocal captain, he leads by example. Going to Madrid at 15 and not settling anywhere. Everyone was thinking this guy was a phenom, but he had loans and nobody really took him until Arsenal. Sociedad had him for a while, and it was between us and Sociedad at one point,” Wright said.
“I thought ‘we have to get him back’, because when he came they recognised the calibre of player they had. He fits into the squad and he’s now captain. That has given him the authority to say ‘yes, I’m here now, I’ve arrived here’.”
No more doubters
This season, Odegaard has silenced every single person who has ever dared to doubt him.
At the age of 15 Odegaard was thrust into superstardom when he signed for Real Madrid, and since that moment, certain individuals have been desperate to see him fail.
However, now, there’s no doubting this young man’s ability. He has finally arrived at the top table of world football where he belongs, and he’s there to stay.
Odegaard is undoubtedly one of the best playmakers in the world right now.
