Glenn Hoddle told Premier League Productions (15/08/21 at 6:45 pm) that Japhet Tanganga was ‘as good as anyone’ as Tottenham beat Manchester City 1-0 on Sunday.
With Harry Kane dominating the headlines before the game, Spurs put all of that drama behind them and secured a deserved three points against the champions.
Not bad for a ‘Harry Kane team’, eh Pep? Perhaps another £100 million needs to be spent!
That’s five games on the bounce that Spurs have beaten Man City in front of their supporters as the Nuno Espirito Santo’s reign got off to the perfect start.
Tanganga was selected to play at right-back by Nuno and he had the £100 million man Jack Grealish and Raheem Sterling to deal with.
But it wasn’t a problem for the North London academy product, as Hoddle spoke about his performance and the reaction he got from his own fans.
“He was absolutely brilliant defensively,” said Hoddle. “He did his job.
“As you say, he had two players, at times, to deal with. Tanganga was as good as anyone on the pitch. He really was fabulous.
“The applause he got from behind the goal, where the big 17,000 fans are, it was quite incredible.
“If there is a place that you are going to go off then that’s the place to go off. If you have had a good game that is.”

Whether Tanganga is playing at right-back, centre-back, or out on the left side, he is proving that he can do the lot.
The manner in which he dealt with Grealish and Sterling has to be applauded and proof that he should become a regular in this Spurs side moving forward.
Either way, it’s perhaps curtains for someone like Serge Aurier because Tanganga is showing him how it should be done.
