Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has ruled out a move for reported Bundesliga target and RB Leipzig playmaker Dani Olmo.

Speaking to the Manchester Evening News ahead of tonight’s clash against the Bundesliga side, the City boss categorically denied that the club had an interest in the Spanish international.

Olmo has been linked with a move to City in recent weeks. However, Guardiola has confirmed that a move is not on the cards, with the former Bayern Munich boss also admitting he is a fan of the playmaker.

The midfielder spent his youth with the famed La Masia academy before making the left-field decision to move to Croatia to play for Dinamo Zagreb. And the choice has proved to be a successful one, with Olmo now one of the most exciting talents in the Bundesliga after moving to Leipzig.

Indeed, Olmo’s qualities make the youngster one of the most prized playmakers in Europe, mainly due to his versatility in the attack and midfield. But for Guardiola, the midfielder is not on City’s radar despite reports.

The City manager said when asked if there was interest in Olmo: “The answer is no. He is a Leipzig player. If we are interested, I’m sure City will contact Leipzig. Saying that he is a fantastic, fantastic player. I’m happy he had the courage to leave Barcelona to develop his skills and then arrive at Leipzig.”

If there was ever a player in Europe who fits the build of what Guardiola loves, it’s Olmo. The Leipzig star is technically brilliant whilst also able to play in numerous positions across the attack and midfield.

Indeed, the Spaniard could well join City one day, however, Olmo is simply not needed at this moment given how much technical quality the reigning Premier League champions have in the squad. And Guardiola is smart to rule out a move for the winger for the immediate future.
