Everton are reportedly interested in Wolverhampton Wanderers boss Nuno Espirito Santo.
When Ronald Koeman was dismissed by Everton at the start of last week, Toffees fans would have been forgiven for wanting his replacement to be someone vastly different from the Dutchman after their start to the season.
A number of names have been linked with the Goodison Park post, and the latest appears to be current Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo – with journalist Guillem Balague taking to Twitter to suggest that the Premier League side have identified the Portuguese as a potential target.
Nuno has done an excellent job during the early stages of his tenure at Molineux, taking Wolves to the top of the table with 10 wins coming in their opening 15 league games.
And there is one other achievement on Nuno’s CV since he arrived in England that only one other boss has managed this season – that man being Koeman himself.
Nuno’s Wolves side were drawn with Manchester City in the most recent round of the Carabao Cup, and based on how Pep Guardiola’s men had started the season, it would have seemed a home banker for the Premier League pace-setters.
And while City would ultimately put their name in the hat for the quarter-final draw, they needed a penalty shootout to get the better of Wolves as the game finished 0-0 after 120 minutes.
That was only the second time all season that City have failed to win a game in 90 minutes in any competition – which remains the case heading into their Champions League clash with Napoli tonight.
And of course, Everton fans will know that the only other team to deny Manchester City a victory in 90 minutes in any competition this term is the Toffees as they came away from the Etihad Stadium with a 1-1 draw back in August.
