West Ham United seem to be spending more on agent fees than Everton among others.
According to a recent report released by the Football Association, West Ham United spent over £9 million on agent fees between February 2, 2016 and January 31, 2017. That is quite a lot of money.
Only five more clubs in the Premier League spent more on agent fees during the same period.
Of course, agents are an important part of player acquisition, but given the signings that the Hammers made in the summer of 2017 and their performances this season, the fee does look too much.
West Ham signed the likes of Sofiane Feghouli, Havard Nordtveit, Gokhan Tore and Simone Zaza among others last summer, but most of the new players have not made the impact they were supposed to.
The fact that Tottenham Hotspur and Everton paid less than West Ham to agents should serve a lesson to the Hammers’ chiefs on how to recruit the right players at the right price and keep agent fees down.
Everton are set to finish seventh in the Premier League this season, and the Toffees spent just over £5m on agent fees between February 2, 2016 and January 31, 2017.
Tottenham have emerged Chelsea’s realistic challengers for the Premier League this season, and the North London club spent around £7m on intermediaries.
