Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to react after ESPN revealed that Manchester United are considering Brendan Rodgers.

What’s the story?

Well, it would be quite a big deal if a former Liverpool manager took the reins at Old Trafford, to say the least.

ESPN believe those at Manchester United are admirers of Rodgers, and his potential appointment is supported by those on the Board.

It comes amid doubts over Antonio Conte, as the Red Devils look to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjær.

Understandably, the Liverpool fans have taken great interest in this news.

One supporter said the power shift would be completed if Rodgers moves to Manchester United, before adding that the 80s are back.

Another fan said it would be ‘incredibly funny’ to see the Northern Irishman at Old Trafford.

Sign of how far Manchester United have fallen behind Liverpool

Rodgers is an excellent manager, although it would be a sign of just how far Manchester United have fallen if they hire someone Liverpool fired.

The 48-year-old was handed his P45 by Fenway Sports Group (FSG) back in October 2015, with the Reds languishing in 10th place in the Premier League.

He has rebuilt his reputation with huge success at Celtic and Leicester.

Nevertheless, it’s never a good look for Manchester United to be taking Liverpool’s cast-offs.

Replacing Solskjaer will be a monumental task, given the many problems at Old Trafford.

In our view, the ex-Swansea boss would risk undoing all his hard work if he steps into the poisoned chalice that is Manchester United.

For now, let’s see what the Liverpool fans on Twitter have been saying about this news…
