West Ham want two strikers with Premier League experience so here are the three best options they’ve been linked with.
West Ham United have been linked with plenty of strikers this summer already and perhaps with good reason, as co-owner David Gold has admitted the club are looking for at least two new signings in the position.
“We need strikers and that is the key to everything for this season so we are focused first and foremost on bringing in two strikers,” Gold told talkSPORT.
“You have to spend your money wisely but it must be on strikers, particularly strikers that have had experience with Premier League football – the very best we can afford.”
So of all the names linked with the Hammers, here are the best forwards with top flight experience in England.
Chelsea’s Michy Batshuayi celebrates scoring their first goal
Michy Batshuayi
West Ham need to be looking at the long-term as well as an immediate impact, which is why reported deals for Olivier Giroud (aged 30, little sell-on potential) and Daniel Sturridge (injury-prone) should be avoided.
The Sun claim the East Londoners are interesting in signing Batshuayi, who despite starting just seven games for Chelsea last term, scored nine goals in 28 appearances.
Javier Hernandez
The most recent rumour, with the Daily Express reporting that the Hammers and Tottenham Hotspur are interested in the former Manchester United attacker – who has a release clause of £13.2m.
Hernandez may have just turned 29 but clearly he is in his prime, with 11 Bundesliga goals in 26 matches in 2016/17 for current side Bayer Leverkusen.
Manchester City’s Kelechi Iheanacho celebrates scoring their second goal
Kelechi Iheanacho
Arguably the most potentially lucrative for West Ham, with the 20-year-old still having plenty of years to develop and become a possible world-class talent.
Sky Sports reported that the London club made a bid for the Manchester City youngster, valued then at around £20m, at the start of June and perhaps it is a deal they should revisit to win the race for the coveted starlet.
