Asmir Begovic is once again being linked with a move to Premier League champions Manchester United.
Each time the Bosnian goes through a brilliant patch of form, the old links with United seem to re-surface and if there’s any truth in them this time round then any move for the 26-year-old could cost United one of their best players in David De Gea.
De Gea is the undisputed number one at Old Trafford. He’s no longer the raw and fragile youngster who was bought by Sir Alex Ferguson and has become a hardened Premier League performer.
Begovic is unlikely to move anywhere unless he’s made assurances that he’ll be the number one goalkeeper so any move from United for him relies on Moyes forcing De Gea out or because the Spaniard wants to leave.
Neither of those two options seem very likely at the moment so it’s difficult to understand where the theory in buying Begovic comes from.
The idea of Begovic replacing De Gea would be far more believable if the Spaniard was entering the final year of his contract but his current deal doesn’t expire until the summer of 2016.
A player could be understandably axed if he refused new terms with his employers or if he was performing terribly but there hasn’t been any indication that United and De Gea’s representatives have even reached the renewal stage of negotiations yet and he’s producing world class form for the side.
There isn’t a great deal between the pair of them in terms of saves and punches with one of the main noticeable differences that Begovic claims more balls than De Gea.

However, De Gea’s physical strength is an area of his game he’s worked very hard on since he moved to United and it’s something Moyes hasn’t had to worry about too much this season.
David De Gea is not one of the players United have an issue or problem with at the moment so where’s the sense in creating one?
