Speaking on the Highbury Squad YouTube channel, Chelsea fan and pundit, Jason Cundy, has urged the Blues to change formation this weekend against Arsenal in order to deal with Granit Xhaka.

The two London clubs face off at Stamford Bridge this weekend in what should be a fantastic clash between two historic sides.

Historically, Arsenal don’t have the best of records at Stamford Bridge, but after an incredibly bright start to the season, they come into this one as favourites.

Cundy recognises that Chelsea need to do something to stop Arsenal, and he’s noted that Xhaka is a player that needs special attention, and he’s urged Graham Potter to change formation to keep the Swiss international at bay.

Stop Xhaka

Cundy shared his plan to stop Arsenal and Xhaka.

“I would go 3-5-2 at the weekend with Sterling and Aubameyang, just so that they give Arsenal something to think about at the weekend. We haven’t spoken about Xhaka yet with the runs he makes from deep, who saw that in his game? Then you have Odegaard too, but he doesn’t go as far as Xhaka. Which goal was it at the weekend where he went beyond, that’s the goal, that’s why I would consider going with 5 in the middle of the park so there is a lot of traffic for him to get through,” Cundy said.

What a transformation

A year or two ago Granit Xhaka would’ve been seen as the player to target in a game like this, now he’s seen as the player to stop.

The midfielder has completely transformed his game and the perception of his game in the wider media, and it’s fair to say that he’s earned the respect of all football fans this season.

It’s no exaggeration to say that Xhaka has been one of the best players in the country this season, and Chelsea need to be very wary of him at the weekend.
