Kevin Campbell thinks Cedric Soares will start at left-back for Arsenal against Brighton, as he told the Highbury Squad Podcast.

It was put to the former striker, by host Sophie Nicolaou, that Mikel Arteta has ‘lost trust’ in Nuno Tavares and the ‘stakes are high now’ for Arsenal.

As a result of all that, Campbell feels it will be Cedric, who is a right-back by trade, that will switch over to the side.

It seems as though Kieran Tierney is going to miss the rest of the season because of a knee injury, which is a body blow for all involved.

But Mikel Arteta has to come up with a solution and fast, else this could become a real problem for them, as Campbell thinks it will be Cedric replacing the flying Scotsman.

“I fear that Arteta, not that he doesn’t believe in him, but I think maybe he has lost trust in Nuno now,” said Nicolaou. “The stakes are so high now.”

Campbell responded: “That’s why I think Cedric will go left-back. That’s why.”

The issue with Nuno Tavares is that if he could showcase the form he produced at the start of the season, then this wouldn’t be a debate about who starts at LB.

But that hasn’t been the case and now Arteta is dealing with a player that is in a fragile state.

Throwing him back in could prove to be dangerous and detrimental to Arsenal’s hopes of Champions League football.

But equally, playing a non-specialist left-back in his place could also dent his confidence further.
