Harry Maguire told Manchester United’s official website that he joined the club so he can play against the ‘best players’ such as Tottenham striker Harry Kane.

Tottenham host Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side in the Premier League today, with that 6-1 win still fresh in the mind of those supporters in North London.

A repeat of such a shock result is very unlikely, but one thing that may repeat itself once more is Kane putting the ball into the back of the net or even supplying an assist.

Kane is the master at that, topping both the goalscoring and assists charts in the Premier League this term.

And whilst Maguire has been on the end of Kane scoring against Manchester United, the £80 million centre-back (BBC Sport) is also aware, from England duty, just what his fellow countryman is capable of.

“I want to play in the biggest games possible against the best players; that’s why I joined this club. Harry [Kane] is one of those,” said Maguire.

“I know him from England really well. He’s a top striker, one of the best in the world and he does it season after season, scores goals after goals.

“He’ll be ready for battle and I’ll be ready for battle. May the best man win.”

Tottenham fans will be hoping that Kane’s gift to them this season is Champions League football and a League Cup trophy.

But his parting gift might just be the 27-year-old leaving with a Premier League Player of the Season award for 2020/21 because his name has to be sitting right at the top of that list.

If Spurs cannot secure a top-four finish then serious questions will be asked about whether they can keep hold of their star man.
