Ki-Jana Hoever has revealed to Goal that he left Liverpool to join Wolves as he felt his first team chances would be extremely limited.

Liverpool were keen to offer Hoever a new contract in the summer, but the youngster instead decided that moving on was his best option.

In the end Wolves came in to sign him in a deal worth up to £13.5 million.

And Hoever admits that he actually didn’t find it too heart-wrenching to leave Anfield, as he was desperate to play more often.

“It wasn’t an easy choice, but it wasn’t that hard either,” Hoever says of his decision to leave Liverpool.

“I knew my playing time would be more than at Liverpool, that’s why I made the decision. I thought it was the best thing for my career in the moment.

“Now of course with the injuries [at Liverpool], you don’t know, but I don’t think like that. I just thought like, if everyone was fit, how much game time would I have? Liverpool have such a great team still, maybe the best back four in the world, so it was really hard for me to break through there.”

Hoever indeed may have got his chance at Liverpool this season, but nobody could have predicted the scale of the injury crisis that the Reds would suffer.

The 19-year-old may well feel his decision has been vindicated too, as he has received game time at Wolves.

The teenager has racked up 12 senior appearances for Nuno’s side so far, and while he is not a first-team regular yet, he has shown signs of promise.
