Jose Enrique has praised Arsenal for looking at possibly handing William Saliba a new contract and added that’s what Liverpool should be doing with their best players, as he posted on Twitter.

The 21-year-old joined Arsenal in 2019, but he only made his senior debut in August after several loan spells and he now has two years left to run on his current deal.

With Arsenal sitting top of the Premier League table, Saliba could argue he has perhaps been the best defender in the Premier League this season.

Mikel Arteta’s side have the second-best defensive record this season and Saliba has found himself being compared to none other than Liverpool’s very own Virgil van Dijk.

There is still a long way to go for the young French defender, but he is showing real promise and Arsenal are looking to reward him with a new long-term deal.

Former Premier League left-back Enrique has watched Liverpool scramble over the line before to hand players new deals, such as Mo Salah this summer, that’s after the departure of Sadio Mane, as he praised the Gunners for seemingly being pro-active with Saliba.

SALIBA HAS TAKEN ARSENAL TO THE NEXT LEVEL

Mikel Arteta will be winning a lot of plaudits for the manner in which he has handled Saliba.

On many occasions, when the Gunners were struggling, especially with their ageing and error-prone defence, calls were being made for the rising star to be handed a chance.

But rather than build him up within the four walls of London Colney, he was pushed out on loan and those spells, especially for Marseille last season, have now elevated him to his current status.

His performances have pushed Arsenal up another level and it would be some story if he were to guide them to the Premier League title this season.
