Jurgen Klopp has told Liverpool’s official website that James Milner is unique.

Milner started for Liverpool against Leicester City and scored, as Klopp’s side got past a tough challenge from Leicester City.

Given Klopp’s demand for his pressing and energy, it is quite remarkable that Milner is able to cope in such a system despite being 33.

And Klopp admits that Milner’s talents cannot be underestimated, as they are so rare.

“That’s true [that he’s unique],” Klopp said, when the interviewer claimed there is no other played like Milner. “Exceptional, exceptional. It just sets the benchmark, that you’re 33 and doing things like this. Obviously age is no issue.

“That’s why he has [played] like 7,680 Premier League games!”

Milner has not been a permanent starter for Liverpool this season, but he remains a hugely valuable squad member.

The £140,000-a-week (Spotrac) England international’s ability to play at full-back and in central midfield means that he provides excellent cover for two positions.

Liverpool’s dramatic victory over Leicester kept up their winning streak, and has left them sitting clear at the top of the Premier League table.

The Reds were boosted by Manchester City’s failure to beat Wolverhampton Wanderers at the weekend, with their advantage now stretching to eight points after just eight games.
