Speaking on his YouTube channel, Rio Ferdinand has been discussing Mohamed Salah and Luis Diaz after the Colombian’s incredible showing in the FA Cup final.

Diaz, once again, put in a Man of the Match performance against Chelsea as the Reds triumphed in the FA Cup for the first time since 2006, and inevitably, there was a lot of talk about Diaz being Salah’s long-term replacement.

However, according to Ferdinand, Diaz needs to start scoring more goals if he wants to truly take Salah’s place once the Egyptian leaves the club.

What’s been said?

Ferdinand spoke about Diaz and Salah.

“He’s top, if you lose Salah, you’re losing 30 plus goals a season and that’s where Diaz needs to step up. In terms of excitement and enjoyment watching him, he’s top. He’s scoring but not at the Salah rate, and that’s the difference. What happens normally when a player like Salah leaves it’s about other players stepping up,” Ferdinand said.

It will come

Ferdinand says that Diaz needs to start scoring in order to take Salah’s spot, and luckily for Liverpool, that could start happening in the not so distant future.

Indeed, Jurgen Klopp knows how to turn his wingers into goalscoring machines, just look at his work with Salah and Sadio Mane.

Neither Salah nor Mane had ever hit 20 league goals in a season before working with Klopp, but now, that’s their benchmark year in, year out.

Diaz proved at Porto that he can score goals, netting 14 in 18 in the league before his January move to Liverpool, and if Klopp can finetune that ability, Liverpool will have another Golden Boot contender on their hands.
