Michael Owen told Premier League Productions that Leeds ‘need to brush up’ on their problems defending set-pieces because it’s nothing to do with their style of play.

Leeds suffered a 3-1 defeat at Chelsea over the weekend, with Kurt Zouma getting on the scoresheet after heading home from a corner.

It now means that the Yorkshire outfit have shipped five goals from set-piece situations this term, with Leicester City the only other team ahead of them on that list.

Owen shared his thoughts on Leeds’ problem and pointed out how they didn’t have any players on the post at Stamford Bridge.

“You are talking about set-plays and that’s something you can definitely improve because that’s not style of play,” said Owen. “That’s working on the training ground.

“It was a goal [Zouma’s] that was easy, wasn’t it? It wasn’t great movement. It was one player that was determined. He got the run, he got a jump and bumped it into the back of the net.

“No players on either post. You sometimes see that when there is an out-swinging corner coining because it’s going away from the goal. So, you can normally get away with not having people on the post. They need to brush up on that.”

Leeds are without a doubt the team to watch this season because of the manner in which they approach games, no matter who they play.

Game after game, opposition players would come out and state how difficult it is coming up against Leeds, with many pointing out the difficulty in dealing with the pace that they set.

Whist they suffered a defeat over the weekend, they will have those moments where they deserve to leave empty-handed, but equally, they will also punish a lot of teams this season.
