Michael Owen and Steve McManaman agreed that Liverpool’s sixth goal during their 9-0 win over Bournemouth was ‘nonsense’, as they sympathised with the away side, as they told Premier League Productions (27/08/22 at 5:05 pm).

Can you get relegated from the Premier League after four games? Well, Bournemouth’s confidence will be well and truly on the floor, shot to pieces, shredded into bits and thrown in the bin after Jurgen Klopp’s side well and truly smashed them on Saturday at Anfield.

At the half-time break, Liverpool were leading 5-0, so for the Cherries in the second half, it’s all about hoping the Reds decide to take a nap because it was embarrassing on their part.

But within minutes of the restart, the home team was celebrating for the sixth time when Chris Mepham converted Trent Alexander-Arnold’s cross into his own net.

However, replays showed that Luis Diaz, who challenged the ball alongside the Wales international, was in an offside position, it was a small matter on a day of much bigger problems for Scott Parker, but one where Owen and McManaman felt sorry for the South Coast side.

“I thought this was offside,” said Owen. “I thought it was a bad decision. He has to be interfering with play. He has to be.”

Steve McManaman added: “That’s nonsense. He was interfering. If you have ever played, he was interfering with play. Definitely.”

NORMAL SERVICE RESUMES

This was, without doubt, an angry Liverpool and one that Bournemouth just caught on a wrong day because, what is worse for them, is that they could have probably lost by more.

For the rest of the Premier League, it’s pretty scary that Liverpool are scoring nine goals, yet Mo Salah isn’t even getting on the score or assist sheet.

Good luck to Newcastle United next week because Salah will have the bit between his teeth and be pretty eager to get on the scoresheet.
