Arsenal goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez says he hopes to remain and succeed at the Emirates Stadium amid reported interest from Leeds United, AS report.

The Argentine shot-stopper has largely been back-up since joining Arsenal in 2012.

Martinez has enjoyed several loan spells at the likes of Sheffield Wednesday, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Reading in the Championship, plus Getafe in La Liga.

But he finally got his chance at Arsenal last season as number one Bernd Leno suffered an injury. He grabbed it with both hands, culminating in an FA Cup win.

Martinez’s form has since attracted interest from other clubs. According to a report in The Sun in July, Leeds are keen to sign the 27-year-old goalkeeper.

Martinez, however, has pledged his future to Arsenal.

“What I hope, as I said, is to continue at Arsenal. That’s my idea, but obviously I want it to be playing. If I have returned so many times (from a loan spell) it is because they continued to trust that I could be their number one. If they had told me ‘look, you have no future here’, I would have gone to another club. Now what I wanted has been fulfilled, and I hope to continue succeeding at Arsenal,” the 6ft 5inch goalkeeper explained.

A move to Leeds could guarantee Martinez a regular first-team spot at Elland Road.

But the former Argentine U20 international may now feel he is Arsenal’s number one, and manager Mikel Arteta may decide to keep faith with him.

Leeds, meanwhile, made Illan Meslier’s stay at Elland Road permanent while Kiko Casilla will also seek to regain the number one spot for the Premier League newcomers.
