‘That’s mental’: Some Leeds fans raging at news coming out about Aston Villa 25-year-old

Leeds United fans were fuming on Twitter after Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins was picked for England today.

England official Twitter account announced the squad for the forthcoming internationals, with Sam Johnstone and Watkins earning first-time calls.

Leeds supporters aren’t happy because they feel that Patrick Bamford deserves to be picked ahead of the Villa man.

There hasn’t been much between Bamford and Watkins this season – with the former scoring three more goals and supplying two more assists.

Bamford has tasted top-flight football before, but Watkins has taken his first full season in the Premier League like a duck to water.

There’s no doubt that it’s a deserved call for Watkins because, aside from his goals and assists, it’s the intelligent pressing and the sprinting without the ball which has also seen him win a lot of plaudits.

Villa have kept a remarkable 14 clean sheets this season and Watkins pressing from the front had played a huge part in Dean Smith transforming his defence, which was one of the worst in the division last term.
