Ashley Young made history for Aston Villa this weekend, with the winger providing more assists than any other player in the Premier League for the club.
The 36-year-old veteran returned to Villa Park this summer after winning the Serie A title with Inter Milan. With Young reportedly earning £50,000-a-week in his second stint with the Birmingham-based club.
Young spent four years at Villa from 2007 to 2011 before moving to Manchester United, and the attacker established himself as one of the assist kings of the Premier League.
And now, ten years after leaving Villa, Young has etched himself into club history as the ex-England international’s 15th-minute assist for Matt Targett made the veteran winger the club’s Premier League goal provider.
Indeed, Young started out on the left in Steven Gerrard’s second game in charge of Villa, with the former Rangers boss making it two wins out of two as the Midlands side secured a 2-1 win against Crystal Palace.
The result takes Villa to 11th in the Premier League standings. And Young’s assist for Targett’s opener now places the attacker ahead of the likes of Jack Grealish, Gareth Barry and James Milner in the club’s all-time rankings.
