Neil Lennon has stated that it’s ‘incredible’ what the former West Ham striker Sebastien Haller is producing at Ajax, as he told BBC Radio 5 Live Sport.
The title-winning Celtic boss lauded the one-time West Ham player after he joined Cristiano Ronaldo in the Champions League record books.
Haller has scored in every group game this season, including on Tuesday night during Ajax’s 4-2 win against Sporting Lisbon.
The Dutch giants had already progressed to the knockout stages of Europe’s biggest club competition.
Only five-time Ballon d’Or winner Ronaldo has achieved such a feat, which just shows the quite remarkable achievement Haller has matched.
Lennon praised the 27-year-old for going from having a ‘difficult’ time at West Ham to becoming a record-breaker on one of the most difficult stages in world football.
“That’s incredible though, isn’t it,” said Lennon. “When you think that he had such a difficult time at West Ham.
“Ajax are on the up. I don’t think they were fancied in their group. And this guy seems to be on fire for them.”
It will be interesting to see if Haller’s form will forge a path back to the English Premier League.
There’s no doubt that many across Europe will be keeping their eyes open as to what Haller is producing.
Whilst West Ham will look towards the Dutchman and think ‘what could have been’, their recent form, in Europe and in the Premier League, still probably proves they were right to move him on.
Michail Antonio has played that number nine role a lot more regularly and has been one of the club’s best players since Haller’s departure.
