Newcastle fans have taken to Twitter to react after Allan Saint-Maximin spoke about what the club should aspire to achieve.
It’s safe to say some are worried about what his comments could mean.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Saint-Maximin said: “Sometimes you have to think about your future, you can see Leicester winning the FA Cup, you play football to win trophies, not to fight to stay up.
“We have to buy more players like Joe Willock, he can be really great for the team and for myself, I am 24 years old, and have to think about the national team, about winning trophies, and hope the club can give me that.”
Now, this really does feel like a warning to Mike Ashley and Steve Bruce.
It sounds as if Saint-Maximin is a little bit jealous after watching Leicester’s players lift the FA Cup, and wants a bit more in his footballing life.
With Newcastle currently lightyears behind the Foxes, it will be interesting to see if the £16.5 million forward has the patience to wait for success on Tyneside.
The worry now is that Ashley cashes in.
The retail tycoon has done just that in the past with the likes of Yohan Cabaye and Demba Ba, so the Newcastle fans below are understandably anxious.
In our view, it is absolutely imperative that the Magpies keep Saint-Maximin happy.
Along with Callum Wilson, the £38,462-a-week forward is one of few top-drawer players at St James’ Park.
Newcastle have to keep adding to these calibre of players – losing one would be a massive backwards step.
