Liverpool legend Steve Nicol believes his former club signing Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat would be great news.

Sky in Italy recently reported that Liverpool are in talks to sign Sofyan Amrabat, who really impressed Nicol with his performances at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Speaking about the Reds’ interest in the 26-year-old on ESPN, Nicol said: “I’m a big fan of his. Haven’t seen a lot of him since the World Cup but I know that in the World Cup, he was a player that I had not heard of before but was absolutely impressive.”

The former right-back later went on to add: “He just did exactly what was needed at the time defensively and did it to a huge standard that I thought he stuck out big time in the World Cup. So if [Jurgen] Klopp has been talking to him and there’s a possibility of getting him, then that’s great news.”

Liverpool could face competition for Amrabat’s signature, though. According to Sky Sports, Manchester United are also interested in the Moroccan.

If Klopp really is keen on Amrabat, then Liverpool have to do all they can to win the race for his services this summer.

With Fabinho having left the club, the Fiorentina star could be the perfect addition to their squad.

He really did excel at the World Cup, recording an average of 2.3 tackles per game, which was the third highest in Morocco’s squad (WhoScored).

Amrabat was great at winning the ball back during the tournament and his performances in general did not go unnoticed.

Former Spain manager Luis Enrique, for example, described Amrabat as an “extraordinary” player. Right now, he does not appear to be Liverpool’s main priority as they focus on signing Wataru Endo from Stuttgart.

According to the reliable Fabrizio Romano, the Japan international has already had his medical ahead of his proposed move to Anfield.

Once that is completed, though, Liverpool should turn their attention to Amrabat if Klopp still feels that he needs another midfielder.
