Chris Sutton has claimed that it’s ‘fair’ to say that Tottenham haven’t replaced Christian Eriksen, as he told BBC Radio 5 Live Sport.

The former Premier League striker also added that Dele Alli’s days in Tottenham colours are ‘numbered’ given how far he has fallen back.

It has been two years since Spurs sold Eriksen to Inter Milan when Jose Mourinho was in charge of the north London club.

Whilst Alli was on a downward spiral when Eriksen left, it’s fair to say that the Dane’s departure didn’t help someone like him and his form.

The duo, with Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son ahead of them, formed quite a partnership under Mauricio Pochettino.

But all of that is now in the past and something Spurs fans won’t see again, as Sutton feels Alli needs to move on for the better of his career.

“Have they ever replaced Eriksen?” said Sutton. “I don’t think they have. I think that’s fair.

“There has been a dramatic improvement under Conte, hasn’t there?

On the issue with Alli: “His days are numbered at Spurs. He looks like a player to me, and it’s not impossible that he can’t turn it around, but he needs another club to kick start his career.”

Slowly but surely, that team that Pochettino built is slowly fading away and moving on for one reason or another.

The likes of Alli, Heung-Min Son, Eric Dier, Ben Davies and Harry Kane, to name a few, remain.

But come the summer, it may well be reduced further, especially given that Alli could leave and someone like Hugo Lloris’ contract expires at the end of the campaign.

Regardless of what happens to those players, if Spurs continue to progress under Antonio Conte, then they won’t care one jot because they will feel they can return to Champions League football under his stewardship.
