Harry Kane has suggested that the tide between Tottenham and Arsenal has ‘changed’ over the last ‘five or six years’, as he told Sky Sports.
The England captain has pointed out that, prior to him breaking into the Tottenham team, Arsenal were ‘finishing above’ them, but he now thinks that’s different.
For 20+ consecutive years, mainly under the stewardship of Arsene Wenger, Spurs were always second best in north London.
But the arrival of Mauricio Pochettino helped change things around, not only the Premier League finishes, but the results in north London derby matches.
Both teams are now fighting to get back into Champions League football, with Mikel Arteta’s side currently holding the charge.
Kane thinks that the Gunners are a ‘great side’ and they have been ‘building over the last few years’.
“Before I broke into the team, our history wasn’t great against Arsenal,” said Kane. “In terms of playing against them and finishing above them in the Premier League.
“But that’s kind of changed during the last five or six years now. Look Arsenal are a great side. They have been building over the last few years, I feel.
“And now they are reaching a high level.”
Both Spurs and Arsenal were due to lock horns in the north London derby on Sunday afternoon, but the game has been postponed by the Premier League.
The issues stem from the Arsenal side and their lack of players because of COVID, injuries, suspension and players on Africa Cup of Nations duty.
It was a controversial call from the Premier League and it will be interesting to see when and how the game will be rearranged.
Games are being called off, left, right and centre, with someone like Burnley only playing 17 games this term, whilst other sides are on 21.
