Well, Antonio Conte has a mountain of work to do with Tottenham Hotspur defenders.

The Lilywhites posted a dreadful performance against Southampton on Wednesday night.

North London played host to a Premier League clash but Spurs wound up losing 3-2 to the Saints, missing the chance to move within a point of fourth-placed West Ham United.

It wasn’t only the result that’ll infuriate the Italian manager, but the performance.

According to BBC Sport, the visitors managed 23 efforts at Hugo Lloris’s goal – 15 more than what Tottenham posted at the other end.

And Craig Burley, speaking on ESPN, claims that a mid-match comment by Martin Tyler during commentary epitomised the one-way traffic during the opening 45 minutes.

According to the Scot, Tyler said, in reference to the visiting players, that ‘they’re all lining up to have a shot’.

Burley told ESPN: “To have 23 efforts on goal compared to Tottenham’s eight or whatever it is and outplay them in that way – I mean absolutely outplay them. The world feed commentator was Martin Tyler. This is how bad it was but in the first half he said they’re all lining up to a shot at goal now…..Southampton. That’s bad!”

It is a little bit on the damning side, you have to admit.

Honestly, the Saints could and probably should have won by a far greater margin and Conte will have been absolutely livid with the abundance of opportunities that his outfit conceded, in both halves.

The good news for Tottenham is that they remain firmly in the race for Champions League qualification.

Yes they’re still four points behind West Ham but, remember, Conte’s troops still have three games in hand over the Irons, which gives the North London an enormous advantage.
